Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys was interviewed by Ebro Darden on FaceTime to talk about her upcoming album ‘Alicia,’ and revealed unknown things behind recording ‘Empire State of Mind’ song with Jay-Z.
‘Empire State of Mind’ is one of Alicia Keys’ most memorable songs released in 2009 in collaboration with Jay-Z.
Alicia Keys said that the song almost would not come out because he didn’t get in touch with her. However, she stated that, at the end of the day, the two communicated to each other and recorded the song.
Here’s what Alicia Keys stated:
“For a minute, it wasn’t even going to come together. He couldn’t find me, he couldn’t get in touch with me for whatever reason. Different people in the middle and the whole thing. So just imagine that song never happened.
I actually cut it in L.A. I think that was the problem. You’re not supposed to cut a song about New York in L.A. It’s just wrong. … After I sent it in … he hits me back like ‘Could you sing it again?’ … So then I brought it back to New York, I cut it right … and there it is.”
