Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr.’s longtime personal assistant Jimmy Rich killed in a car accident Wednesday night. He was 52 and his tragic death was announced by Downey on his Instagram page.
Jimmy Rich had been working with Robert Downey Jr. since 2003’s The Singing Detective. According to Rich’s IMDb page, Downey and Rich would continue to work together 22 more times, including his Marvel movies.
Downey took to Instagram and penned down an emotional letter to Rich and called him brother and right-hand. Downey continued and said Rich supported the actor every step of his recovery, life, and career.
Here’s what Robert Downey Jr. wrote:
“This is not news. This is a terrible and shocking tragedy. Jimmy Rich was in a fatal car accident at approx. 8 pm yesterday. He was a brother, my right-hand man, an uncle to our kids, and beloved by all who experienced his singular character and wit… Our thoughts go to his relatives, friends, co-workers, and all the fans who knew him as the man who supported every step of my recovery, life, and career… Again, my condolences to his beautiful family, and the legacy of hope and redemption his life will continue to represent.”
Following Rich’s devastating death, Marvel actors and Avengers cast mourned the death of Rich and paid tribute to Downey’s personal assistant with beautiful comments. Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Hemsworth, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Jack Black, and Clark Gregg all expressed condolences in the comment section.
