Actor Dave Franco spoke to the Insider and confirmed that he would play ’90s famous rapper Vanilla Ice in his upcoming biopic called ‘To The Extreme.’
The ‘To The Extreme’ biopic has the same name as the rapper’s debut album, which was released in 1990. There have been speculations about Franco would portray the lead role since early last year, but the 35-year-old actor provided little detail regarding the upcoming movie.
Here’s what he said:
“We have been in development for a while, but we are inching closer and closer to preproduction.”
“With that movie, people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was — that’s the tone we want for this one as well.”
Robert Matthew Van Winkle, known by the stage name Vanilla Ice had gained fame with his 1990 song ‘Ice Ice Baby,’ which stayed 16 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Franco also said that Vanilla Ice gave him some tactics in preparing the role and described him as a clever man. He added:
“Rob is such a sweet and intelligent guy, and he’s been super helpful in the process of getting all the details correct and making us privy to information the public doesn’t know. Just talking to him, I can’t help but think about the rabbit holes I’m going to go down to get ready for the role.”
