Pop singer Halsey has clarified her remarks on the Palestine-Israel conflict after she accused of being reductive by an internet user on Twitter.
Disputes between Israel and Palestine resumed a few days ago. Israel and Palestine dropped bombs on each other’s cities, and many innocent people and children died as a result of these bomb attacks.
Halsey posted a tweet on her Twitter account to support Palestine and said it was not too complicated to understand the murder of brown children, referring to Palestinian children, and argued that this was deliberate ignorance to combine simple fears with religion and geopolitics.
Here’s the tweet:
“It is not “too complicated to understand” that brown children are being murdered + people are being displaced under the occupation of one of the most powerful armies in the world. It is willful ignorance to conflate these simple horrors with religion + geopolitics. #FreePalestine”
A Twitter user and fan, known to be Jewish, said that the singer’s remarks are reductionist and stated that most Israelis are not people of white.
After Halsey was accused of being reductive, she said that her tweet was for white Americans and friends who were not interested in the Middle East crises. She apologized for not clarifying the purpose of the tweet.
Here’s the tweet:
“My tweet is for my peers / white Americans who don’t concern themselves with middle eastern crises because they don’t care about what happens to POC, and can afford to act as such by writing it off as “too complicated”. I’m sorry I didn’t make the target of the tweet more clear!”

Halsey, I love you, but this is reductive. The majority of Israelis are people of color. https://t.co/YlH0kfGDES
