J.K. Simmons, known as the Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man movies, talked about how his character evolved and changed in a modern way in the upcoming films.
It was also a surprise for him when he got a call from the producers of the spider-man film, Spider-Man: Far from Home. Simmons said he always liked to be part of the films and he hoped for another film to play his character. The producers visited him and after they met everything happened very quickly he said.
J. Jonah Jameson is a journalist who makes news against Spider-Man and wants to reveal his true identity. The producers who think that this character should keep up with today’s age came up with a new idea. So after that, Jameson became a character who has a youtube channel uploading conspiracy videos about Spider-Man.
Here’s what Simmons said:
“It ended up happening very quickly after we met. Bing, bang, boom, I think a day or two later I was doing this top-secret shoot in somebody’s office on the soundstage.”
He said that although this new Jameson gave the same taste as before, he has some doubt about whether it was a very innovative step. He explained the discussion he made about the new version of Jameson.
Here’s what he said:
“The only thing we didn’t a hundred percent see eye to eye on, I think, was how much is this character going to be the character from, I think, the comic books and from the Sam Raimi original trilogy, and how much do we want to evolve it and to have it be more contemporary or more… You know. I was very attached to what I had done previously for a variety of reasons.”
“So I guess the compromise ended up being no hair. [laughter] Which I think honestly, that decision might’ve just been them going, ‘We don’t have time to make a wig. We got to shoot him tomorrow in the office.’ So, J. Jonah Jameson either lost his hair in the last few years, or he was wearing a hairpiece the whole time. I don’t know, you pick.”
