James Gunn Reveals Why Actors Lie About Their Height When Casting

James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, revealed some truth about the lies the actors told and said that the actors lied about their height when casting.

James Gunn has worked with many successful actors in his directorial career and formed close friendships with almost all of them. But when it comes to business, Gunn revealed that 50 percent of actors lie about their height.

Here’s what James Gunn said:

“I wish actors (especially men) would tell the truth about their height when casting. Casting a whole show can be a balance of a lot of things, including heights, & easily 50% of the time male actors exaggerate how tall they are, sometimes by a lot, on their resumes.”

Gunn also responded to some of his followers’ claims, saying that the reason actors lied about their height was purely because of ego satisfaction, not the risk of being unemployed.

He said:

“Absolute nonsense. Men lying about their height in resumes costs them as many jobs as it gets them through deceit. You’re often looking for someone smaller to balance out the cast, to make a star look taller, or to fit well with another comparable actor.

They don’t lie to get the job. They lie because of their egos. Sometimes it gets them the job; sometimes it costs them the job.”

He added:

“Also, for the record, I’m against lying to get a job that you’re taking from someone else who is being honest in any case.”

James Gunn said he hates when actors lie about their height because it affects the casting so much. He said:

“I don’t especially care if they lie to the public, which most A-list actors do, especially actors who aren’t tall. But lying during the casting process and on their resumes can affect what we’re filming, and that’s a different story.”
