Singer and songwriter Justin Timberlake shared an amazing story on Instagram about the late American professional baseball pitcher Tommy Lasorda and paid a touching tribute after his death, remembering him with respect.
On January 7th, Tommy Lasorda died from heart failure at the age of 93, and the people who loved him started to share their memories with him paying their respect to the legend.
One of them was Justin Timberlake and he updated his Instagram to share a throwback photo with Mr. Lasorda from backstage at SNL on one of the weeks Timberlake was hosting. Mr. Lasorda wanted to come and see him rehearse, honoring the singer.
In the post, Timberlake also shared memory with Mr. Lasorda when he accepted to make a surprise for Timberlake’s stepdad because he was a big fan of him. Mr. Lasorda showed up in the singer’s apartment and told his stepdad all the stories behind their legendary wins and losses and his amazing career.
This touching story showed everyone how much Mr. Lasorda had generosity and humility for people around him, and he left the best memories in people’s minds. In his final words, Justin Timberlake stated that he felt lucky to have shared time with Mr. ‘Tommy’ Lasorda.
Here’s the caption:
“This man was always so kind to me. He had the best stories about legendary moments in @dodgers baseball history and the best stories about life.
He had the type of personality that could light up a room — and when he spoke, you could hear a pin drop… A true 1 of 1. My stepdad, Paul was always a big fan and on one of his birthdays my good friend @boyfromnewyorkcity helped me surprise him with a dinner with Mr. Lasorda (he insisted I call him Tommy. I still always called him Mr. Lasorda).
He shows up at my apartment in NYC and told my stepdad (who was awestruck) all the stories behind their legendary wins and losses, and his amazing career.
He stayed far longer than I could ever have asked for and was so happy to be there and put a Cheshire Cat smile on my stepdad’s face. This, maybe the most, spoke to his heart and character because I’ve heard so many stories like my own about his generosity and humility. ⠀
This pic is from backstage at SNL on one of the weeks I was hosting. He wanted to come and see me rehearse and in my element, and I was truly honored.⠀
A real legend and one hell of a man.⠀
I feel lucky to have shared time with you, Mr. “Tommy” Lasorda. I’m sure you’re already raising a little bit of hell up there…”
