During a recent conversation with Nick Cannon on Cannon’s Class, Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West opened up about the incident betweetn himself and Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Vide Music Awards.
The two musicians have had a stormy relationship since 2009 when West interrupted Swift’s speech for best female video at the MTV Music Awards.
Grabbing her microphone, West objected to the award, saying Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ video deserved the prize more than Swift’s You Belong With Me.
West detailed the incident and revealed the only reason he jumped on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift was because of ‘God.’
Here’s what Kanye West stated:
“He wants me to say this now. If God didn’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row. I would have been sitting in the back.”
“He wouldn’t have made it the first award. And he wouldn’t have made it so ridiculous! I had never heard of [Taylor Swift] before that. And ‘Single Ladies’ is one of the greatest videos of all time. And I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn’t wanna go to the award show because it was a setup.”
