Rapper Lil Nas X has reacted to a Twitter user and clapped back the criticism for hissing a male dancer during his ‘Call Me By Your Name’ performance at the 2021 BET Awards.
The rapper paid tribute to Michael Jackson’s 1991 song ‘Remember the Time’ when he performed ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ at the awards ceremony. An Egyptian pyramids-themed show was set up and Lil Nas X looked very passionate on stage.
One of the most striking moments in the show was Lil Nas X’s passionate kiss with the male dancer at one point of the show. The kiss was so incredible that he got a standing ovation from Pose star Mj Rodriguez and a few other celebrities.
Even iconic rapper Diddy paid tribute to Lil Nas X and supported him on Twitter for his fearlessness. However, the only person who didn’t seem to like it was this Twitter user who thought Lil Nas X’s performance disrespected African culture.
Twitter user wrote:
“DONT USE AFRICAN CULTURE FOR SHITS LIKE THIS!!!!!!! RESPECT OUR ANCESTORS”
Lil Nas X responded to the Twitter user and reacted by saying that there is homosexuality in African culture as well:
“Y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture”
