Rihanna Slams Nigerian Police Forces After They Opened Fire On Protesters

Grammy Award-winning R&B star and also fashion entrepreneur, Rihanna has shared her thoughts about Nigerian protests over ending Sars on the Instagram page and showed her open support for the protestors.

The protests started about two weeks ago, with calls for the dissolution of the Sars unit within the police for acts such as unlawful arrest, assault, and firing. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari closed the Sars unit on 11 October.

However, the demonstrators did not leave the streets to demand further changes in security forces and reforms in the country’s administration.

As protests continued, police forces opened fire on demonstrators in Lagos, the country’s largest city. According to eyewitness reports, it is known that at least 20 dead and 50 injured after the soldiers opened fire on the demonstrators.

After this report, the Barbadian lead singer made a statement on Instagram Stories and showed her support for the Nigerian protestors. The singer also slammed Nigerian police forces by saying her heart is broken.

Here’s what she said:

“I can’t bare to see this torture and brutalization that is continuing to affect nations across our planet! It’s such a betrayal to the citizens, the very people put in place to protect are the ones we are most afraid of being murdered by! My heart is broken for Nigeria man!! It is unbearable to watch! I’m so proud of your strength and not letting up on the fight for what’s right! #ENDSARS I”
