Rising R&B Stars Chloe x Halle Say ‘Beyonce Gave Us Complete Freedom’ While Explaining Her Effect On Their Music

Chloe and Halle Bailey are two rising names of R&B music, and they were selected as this year’s Billboard Women in Music Rising Star.

The sisters have already achieved many things and gained the support of one of the biggest names in the music industry, Beyonce. Beyonce became the mentor of the sisters after she first heard them on YouTube and later signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment.

Although they are in their early twenties, the musician sisters are consolidating their place in the music market day by day. Like Beyonce, Chloe and Halle also produce their own music and write their own songs.

The older sister, Chloe, co-produced 10 of the album’s 13 tracks. Their second R&B album, Ungodly Hour, became number two on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and received three Grammy nominations.

Before the end of 2020, Billboard interviewed the successful duo and asked them what it feels like to be young female artist in the world of music and how Beyonce gave them direction.

Chloe explained that many people think that they are little perfect angel sisters, but that wasn’t the truth. Expressing that they are trying to explain that they have insecurities in their lives too like other people, the singer also admitted that when their father first heard the lyrics of some songs from the album, he almost had a heart attack.

Here’s what Chloe stated:

“A lot of people think of us as little perfect angels that don’t have any problems, and that’s not true. We really wanted to show the imperfect side of us on this project. We have fallen in love, fallen out of love, had our hearts broken. We’re still learning to love our insecurities.

That’s what this album symbolizes for us: ‘Will you love me at the ungodly hour?’ We have to give a lot of that credit to our parents too. It’s so funny when we were playing the songs for them, our dad almost had a heart attack…”

Halle supporting her sister’s words by explaining that they expressed their feelings through music and stated that many things that their family did not know were included in the songs.

Here’s what Halle stated:

“…because we expose ourselves in the music. A lot of the things we don’t tell our parents, it’s in the songs. When they hear them, they’re like, “Oh, this is what’s happening? OK.”

The musician sisters also revealed that Beyonce gives them complete freedom in creating their music. Chloe explained that as a musician who entered this business at a young age, Beyonce understood them and gave them control over their art.

Here’s what Chloe and Halle said:

“Chloe: What’s really cool is that she gives us complete freedom. She has been in this game since she was so young, and she knows what it feels like to be able to use her voice. She doesn’t take that away from us, and she lets us create the art we want to create. We’ll just do whatever the hell we want and see if it sticks. Then we’ll go back the next day and listen to it and be like, ‘We really like this!’

Halle: It’s freeing when you have full creative control, and you don’t have to rely on anyone else. We truly feel that it is our story to tell. We don’t want anybody else to tell our story.”
