Stephen King, one of the most important novelists of our time, is continuing to criticize President Donald Trump on social media and pointed out one of the important things about Americans.
As you might know, the 2020 Presidental elections to be held on 3rd November. With this election, the 59th President of the USA will take office. The strongest candidate Trump is facing is Joe Biden, who will become the oldest president if he wins.
The 73-year-old legendary author tweeted out about the approach of Trump to the coronavirus pandemic and claimed that the president is not a patriot. He criticized Trump’s rhetoric that people should not be afraid of the virus, reminding him of something he had forgotten about Americans.
Here’s what he wrote:
“Donald Trump is no patriot. When he said he “didn’t want to panic people” about COVID-19, he forgot the most salient fact about Americans: THESE COLORS DON’T RUN.”
What is the meaning of this idiom; these colors don’t run. According to Greg Guy, a linguistics professor at New York University, ‘these colors don’t run’ is simply a pun. He described this idiom as people speak of the colors in a fabric ‘running’ when they are washed — one color bleeds into another, or fades. And we speak of ‘running’ away from something. Similarly, colors can mean simply the colors of some physical object, but it’s also used to mean ‘flag’.”
