Young climate activist Greta Thunberg is a Swedish activist who started protests in August 2018. She fights against climate change and she thinks that it should begin immediately. After her ‘school strike for climate,’ she drew the attention of the media and she became known worldwide.
At the Toronto Film Festival panel, which took place on Saturday, she spoke about how uncomfortable she felt about the way people are missing the point she is trying to give.
She thinks that instead of focusing on the issue and doing something about it, they are talking about her. Even leaders are coming near her just to take pictures. But after that, nothing is changed.
It shouldn’t be just for the public appearance. They should immediately take it seriously and find solutions to live in a better world.
Here’s what she stated:
“Instead of focusing on the climate and listening to the scientific message, people are instead listening to and talking about me and talking about wanting to take pictures with me.”
“It just feels more convenient because if you pose next to a climate activist, you say you care about the climate and don’t have to do anything,”
At the festival, there was the premiere of the documentary about her and how she became a climate activist. But she was not pleased with that either. She would have preferred the documentary to be less about herself and more about environmental and climate issues.
Here’s what she said:
“This cannot be left to individuals. It’s too much responsibility for people like us, like me and Autumn, and he (Grossman) shows so much responsibility is being put on the children.”
